Aphex Twin was a marker for me to try and absorb what this electronic music stuff was in 1994.  back then it was all good: raves, IDM, drum and bass, etc.  a big lesson learned around that time was never go "arty" with music.  what this does is strip away all visceral body experience and you simply have floating brains living in ivory towers feeling superior and stroking chins & egos.  this was what i found in the "intelligent dance music" arena.  it was pathetic to watch the whole genre vs. genre, cerebral purists vs. giddy ravers war again.  i'll take internal linkgreen day over internal linkstockhausen any day.  it's more fun.  of course you have to throw in the drum and bass "hard" attitude in there somewhere as well.  how refreshing psychedelic trance was upon discovery.  no egos.  just a lot of clean drugs and a sense of community.  Aphex Twin is definitely suited for the holier than thou ketamine klub. it's too bad, because his music is really interesting.  the new outlook is a holistic one, and music alone is no longer enough.  - @Om* 6/3/00
