Nirvana

Nirvana, in Indian philosophy, a transcendent state free from suffering and individual phenomenal existence, an ultimate religious goal most frequently identified with Buddhism. The attainment of nirvana breaks the otherwise endless rebirth cycle of transmigration. Its nature has been much debated in Western scholarship, some scholars maintaining that it involves total annihilation and others interpreting it as eternal bliss. Both views are problematic, for nirvana is ultimately indescribable and can only be known directly.

at a internal linktime when it was really uncool to like this band, when KIIS FM here in L.A. would announce before playing _teen spirit_: "it's this new thing called grunge!", i was really into it.  what people didn't know was the reason WHY i was into it.  before this band, there was a HUGE separation between independent and majors.  there was a war going on, and it was a good war (recall WWII).  nowadays it's "post-nirvana".  now all the "cool-heads" who were supposdly "underground" and "with it" are lumped into all the radio play and b.s.   to me, this was a great thing.  there is no more room for war, on any scale.  looking back on the rap/metal wars of the eighties, and picking up on every subdivision of subcultures battling with each other, i became painfully aware of what a waste of time it all was.  there is no more distinction.  there is no right or wrong.  yes, it's quite confusing... and i like it that way.  to this day, there are people who i used to hang out with that are still doing the same old thing - at least inside their heads... this band was very appropriately named.  cobain said later on that he disliked the band name.  "too spiritual and drippy", he said.  little did he know that he was yet just another vehicle for meme propagation.  the band is perfectly named.  now that the "good fight" has been done and over with, all the energy raised into consciousness by this thing called music, now has a more meaningful purpose.  there is no more time for hating major labels, or making distinctions about the technicalities of music.  it is now all melding into one.  so where is the internal linkfocus of this energy?  to have fun?  meet chicks?  hob knob with industry?  to slam?  stagedive?  dance? there's major heat loss there... the next step seems to be a very constructive one.  something we haven't seen yet.  something big....
